Spinal decompression is a treatment that relieves pressure on the spinal discs and nerves to treat back, neck, or leg pain. It can be done surgically or non-surgically:
Non-Surgically:
Spinal decompression can help treat conditions that cause chronic backaches, such as herniated disc, disc bulge, sciatica, and spinal stenosis.
Definition: de*compression: to reverse the pressure or increase the space between the vertebral segments
de: reverse, do the opposite of compression: to press or squeeze together, reduce in size
The FDA approved specialized table provides a gentle and comfortable stretch to the spine to reverse the compression off the spinal discs and nerves. The stretch or decompression creates more space in your spine, removing the pressure on the discs. This acts to help rehydrate the discs and allows them to move into a better position. Although many people experience noticeable relief after a few sessions, it typically requires a series of sessions to achieve maximum results as disc degeneration is a process that develops over time. The reversal of this degeneration is a healing process that takes time to heal.
When the spinal vertebra become misaligned, they place uneven pressure on the spinal disc which will cause abnormal and accelerated wear to the disc. Like cartilage in your knee that wears with abnormal pressure, the spinal discs will wear down and bulge or herniate. The bulging and herniation places pressure or compression on the nerve causing problems.
The spinal discs provide cushion and space between the vertebra allowing proper nerve function without irritation. Traumas such as slips, falls, accidents, injuries, abnormal postures, repetitive movements and sitting all day can cause the spinal bones to misalign and place abnormal pressure on the spinal discs. Over time the result is disc bulging, disc herniation and disc degeneration. Spinal decompression can be very effective with these conditions.
With spinal decompression therapy, we seek to reverse the compression and take pressure off the discs and nerves. The table will be programmed to apply gentle stretches to your spine with alternating rest periods over the course of the 20-30 minute session.
